Start with Data Quality, Not a Ranking Promise
AI-search responses can change by provider, query, location, and time. No Shopify app can guarantee that a product will appear in a generated answer. What a merchant can control is the accuracy and structure of the product information exposed to machines.
Step 1: Deliver Structured Product Data
Shopigent AI GEO generates schema.org JSON-LD and stores synced product blocks in a Shopify metafield. Its theme app extension renders Organization, WebSite, and Product data, with nested Offer data. Current catalog sync does not load ratings or taxonomy categories; Settings does not expose FAQ, shipping, or return-policy schema controls.
After enabling the extension, use Live HTML Check to confirm that the JSON-LD is present in the delivered storefront page.
Step 2: Expose an Authenticated Catalog Interface
The MCP Storefront exposes eight tools for product search, details, comparison, promotions, store information, popular products, recommendations, and category navigation. Generate an API key in Settings and connect only clients you trust.
MCP access gives a compatible client a structured way to request catalog data. It does not make a third-party platform connect automatically.
Step 3: Measure Honestly
- Measurement (honest): Growth and Pro can run manual, quota-limited checks through OpenAI web search and the Perplexity Agent API. Only a provider-attached citation of the store domain counts; retrieved search results and name matches never enter rates. This is not a chat ranking.
Treat each result as a point-in-time provider response, not a universal visibility score or ranking guarantee.
Step 4: Improve Descriptions with Merchant Control
The optimizer highlights missing product details and scores descriptions heuristically. Growth and Pro can generate an LLM rewrite. The suggestion remains advisory until the merchant explicitly saves it to Shopify.
What Success Looks Like
A successful setup has valid JSON-LD in storefront HTML, accurate MCP responses, complete descriptions, and repeatable measurement records. Business outcomes should be measured with the merchant's own analytics rather than assumed from schema generation alone.
